The bike portion of this trip has sadly met its conclusion...
Some figures for us first off:
1,558km travelled. (Odometer reset at 1,000km)
65.28 liters of 95 octane gasoline used.
3 BMW 1200GS's spotted along the route.
200+ Mosques spotted along the route.
4 ancient cities visited.
Now on to the best figure...ZERO, as in none of the following:
Flat tires, mechanical problems, speeding tickets, parking tickets, crashes, bike turnovers, and regrets. (The only regret was that I could have spent more time here and seen things in more depth, oh well, next time!)
As I rode out from Dalyan back toward Gocek, I couldn't help but feel some sadness. I guess that will always happen when something great is about to come to an end. When I finally saw the sign for entering Gocek, still feeling a little ho-hum, I felt a sense of relief. Mostly in the fact that I'd made this whole bike trip without a wreck, but also in the fact that I'm flying off to Istanbul for another great 4 days with my closest friends.
A nice wrapup with Robert and Sina from Bike Turkey, and I've promised them I'd be back, with friends!!! (Hint hint.) I headed into Gocek for a hearty lunch and to freshen up my look, or should I say "streamline" my look! There were way too many grays starting to come in anyway.
I'm at the airport now awaiting the 1 hr flight to Istanbul, where one Mark Durcan and one king size bed await me at the W Hotel.
See you in Istanbul..
