Last night after dinner I took a short trip to the phenomenon known as Chimaera. Its a series of burning rocks more or less...natural gas comes up from the earth and the flames burn nonstop in the rocks on the mountainside. A nice 1km hike into the pitch black woods is the only way to get there. Oh, did I mention its all uphill too. Oh, did I mention that coming back down is even more treacherous! Supposedly it was discovered by Alexander the Great some 2,000 years before Christ, but I'm willing to bet that the Bangles spotted it first on their Walk Like an Egyptian middle eastern tour in 1986..sing it with me now..."Eternal Flame." Def one of my LEAST favorite 80's songs.
Upon my return to the pensiyone, I had another cold beer with my new hostel pals, and we watched YouTube videos for an hour, because that's what people do when there's no TV I guess.
I was up at dawn today due to every rooster in town showing off his little cock-a-doodle doo.
A nice hour long walk down the beach to the town of Olympos and see some quick ruins. (Photo).
Back to the pensiyone now for a quick breakfast. Reload the bike, fuel up and head out. I've got about 280km to go today, but I feel like that is only the Google maps estimate, in reality it will be more.
Will post from the road....
