Pamukkale & Hierapolis

A total of 330km for the day, about 20% more than anticipated.  I'm taking it in stride, but my backside, that's another story.
The rest of the riding today was mostly highway & city roads. Finally did some mileage in 6th gear today between somewhere and Denizli. Denizli is an actual city, (pop. 500,000), so naturally I kept my eyes peeled for a Starbucks, hoping that a mocha coconut frapuccinno would be there to fuel me for the last 30km, but alas, it was not to be found. This city is a stark contrast to some of the villages I passed through in the mountains and country today. Some of those places had stone built houses, donkeys pulling carts, and looked liked they had never seen a Kim Kardashian covered tabloid...oh the travesty, their deprived children. I felt like a "my name is Borat, jagjemesh!", could have popped out at any moment on any corner in one of 20 small villages.
I even saw a flock of sheep walking along the street with their shepherd keeping them from running into the road. Did you read that right, a shepherd...yes a GOD DAMN SHEPHERD. Someone in Turkey is actually professionally tending to sheep. He had the stick and everything...
Sorry, moving on.
So the destination today is Pamukkale, and I've arrived. The Hotel Venus is my beddown tonight. It's a nice place, a little more upscale than last night, with a pool and the ability to flush the toilet paper instead if putting it in the basket (hmmm maybe TMI?)
But the real draw here are the travertine pools and Hierapolis, and what a draw they are!  The pools and that whole thing are beyond words to describe. I'll post a couple of phone pics now, and some high res ones later, but do yourself a favor and Wiki it and find out how it happens and how cool it is.
Hieraplois is your classic Greco-Roman city. Some fairly intact ruins, a lot of recovered artwork and statues and stone works, and a very intact large amphitheater. Another Wiki lookup is worth your time.
I'm pretty beat today, so its prob just a quiet night in at the Hotel Venus.
A domani....
