I got adventurous last night and headed out into Datca for dinner, rather than eating at the Hotel Marphe. I wanted to check out the other hotel I considered staying at in Datca, the Villa Asina, as it was highly rated on tripadvisor for both the rooms and the food.
Upon my arrival to their beautiful cliffside hotel, I was informed that they didn't serve a normal dinner like a restaurant. They take the orders during the day and then only get enough food to serve for that group.
A very nice lady at the Asina took to my story and my charisma and said they would work something out and get me fed. It turned out to be the best meal I have had yet. A traditional Turkish mezze(?), a series of 6+ spreads of varying flavors, that you smear on bread. Follow up to that was a great salad, and then the best grilled calamari I've ever tasted. Some kind of local dessert and Turkish coffee, and I was full. A ride back in the dark (yikes), to my hotel and off to bed.
A new morning. Not as full a day riding today, probably only 200km, but time is limited also, and I've got a stop to make. I'm riding to Dalyan, a seaside town with some famous rock cliff tombs.
Dalyan is a touristy coastal city. The main draw being the tombs, the beach, and various scuba/snorkel/water activities. But I don't have time for such niceties. A quick rowboat trip (all the rowboat operators are women, I might add) across the canal, and I'm as close as I can get to the rock tombs. A look around town some, and I'll hit the road again. I've got a flight out of Dalaman at 6pm headed for Istanbul. Still got some road ahead of me to get back to Gocek, wrap up with Bike Turkey, and grab a cab back to the airport.
Random shot while riding out of Dalyan, some guy building his own Noah's Ark. Guess the Quran didn't get to that part yet...Christians, ahead of the curve since 33 A.D.
